Mark Monane joined CardioDx, a cardiovascular molecular diagnostic company, in 2011 as Chief Medical Officer, where he focuses on medical oversight, evidence development, and payer support. Prior to joining CardioDx, he served 11 years as managing director of equity research for Needham & Company, LLC, where he concentrated on analyses of emerging biotechnology companies in the cardiovascular and cancer disease areas. Prior to Needham & Company, Mark served as Senior Director of Medical Policy and Practices at Medco Health, where he helped direct pharmaceutical benefit manager strategies and programs for the elderly. Before joining Medco, Dr Monane was an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health, where he completed fellowship training in geriatrics, clinical pharmacology, and clinical effectiveness and centered his research work on optimizing medication use in the elderly around cardiovascular disease and other chronic disorders. Mark has more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed and professional journals, focusing on improving physician prescribing patterns, medication compliance, and clinical validity/clinical utility/economic utility of diagnostic tests.
Dr. Monane has longstanding interest and experience in the areas of quality and patient safety. With regard to his research work, Mark’s work has focused on improving physician prescribing practices: several of his publications focus on geriatrics and optimal prescribing in this vulnerable population. More recently, Mark has evaluated and co-written several articles on a precision medicine blood test and its potential to decrease unnecessary testing. With regard to education and teaching, Mark was graduated with a Master of Science in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard School of Public Health, where he also served as an Assistant Professor. In addition, he was board certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review. With regard to clinical work and practice, Mark was a clinical geriatrics physician as well as Risk Management Officer at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and served as a facilitator and leader of quality improvement teams in stroke and medical imaging. More recently, Dr Monane serves as the Clinical Consultant for the CardioDx CLIA lab.
Mark holds an A.B. and an M.B.A. from Columbia University, an M.S. degree in health policy from Harvard University, and an M.D. from New York University. He is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, Fellow of the American College of Physicians, American Geriatrics Society Fellow, and Fellow of the American College of Medical Quality. He is Adjunct Associate Professor of Pharmacy at the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University.
