Dan Westphal, MD, MBA, FCCP, FACMQ, CMQ is Senior Vice-President and Chief Medical Officer at Broward Health. In this role, he provides physician leadership to further ensure the delivery of quality medical care to Broward Health patients. Dr. Westphal acts as a key liaison between the hospital’s administration and medical staff, works with clinical departments to develop and implement improvements and is accountable for overall medical quality management including patient safety, patient satisfaction, medical care efficiency and medical staff performance. He previously served as Director of Medical Affairs at Memorial Hospital Pembroke in Pembroke Pines, Chief Medical Officer at Florida Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale and Chief Medical Officer at Boca Regional Hospital. From 2001 to 2003, Dr. Westphal also served as Chief Medical Officer at Broward Health North.
Westphal is a graduate of University of Kansas School of Medicine and was a medical resident at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY. He served as a clinical and research fellow in pulmonary medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University. He also received his Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University where he graduated with honors. He is Associate Clinical Professor at the Charles E. Schmidt School of Medicine in Boca Raton and also is Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine of FIU School of Medicine. He is Chairman of the American Board of Medical Quality and was recently inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Medical Quality. Dr. Westphal was recently honored with the Leadership Development Award at the Memorial Healthcare System Leadership Development Institute. He serves on the Board of the Greater Miami-Fort Lauderdale South Florida Heart Association and has recently been named as President-Elect.
In 1998, he was listed among the Best Doctors in America. In 1986 received the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, Fort Hays State University and the Distinguished Service Award ICU Committee North Broward Medical Center. Dr. Westphal served as a Captain in the US Army Medical Corps.
He is a member of Broward County Medical Association, Florida Medical Association, American Board of Quality Assurance & Utilization Review Physician, Inc. and the American College of Medical Quality.
