In this webinar, we will review a new intensive Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QI/PS) Leadership Development Program created and implemented in a large, integrated academic health center.  Critical elements of the curriculum, capstone project requirements, and lessons learned will be shared.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Identify key elements of a successful quality improvement and patient safety curriculum for clinical faculty in academic health centers.
  2. Discuss interprofessional approaches to quality improvement and patient safety training in clinical settings.
  3. Discuss the importance of leadership development in quality improvement and patient safety in academic health centers.

About the Presenters: Ellen L. Guarnieri, RN, MHSA, CPHQ, FACHE is Assistant Director, Healthcare Quality and Safety Programs at Jefferson College of Population Health. Ellen is the former President and CEO of Robert Wood Johnson Health Care Corp Hamilton (RWJ), which comprised the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton, the Robert Wood Johnson Hamilton Foundation, Lakeview Child Centers and the Robert Wood Johnson Medical Services Organization. From 1998 to 2005, she served as System Vice President and COO of Marlton, New Jersey-based Virtua Health, overseeing strategic planning and business development, hospital operations and medical staff development. Before this she served as Associate Executive Director for Clinical Service/Chief Nursing Officer. Prior to her employment at Virtua Health, Ms. Guarnieri specialized in oncology nursing at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Roswell Park Memorial Cancer Center, where she provided nursing support for clinical research programs.

Billy Oglesby, PhD, MBA, MSPH, FACHE is the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs in College of Population Health, where he leads all academic functions of the College, including program growth and evaluation, enrollment management, faculty development and oversight, research expansion, and student support services. He also works with key leaders across the growing Jefferson enterprise and with stakeholders locally, regionally, and globally to develop new academic initiatives that promote healthcare quality, improve operational effectiveness and efficiency and advance population health.
