American College of
Medical Quality (ACMQ)


MISSION

  • To provide leadership & education in healthcare quality management.
     

OBJECTIVES

  • To educate & provide a forum for health care professionals, government agencies, & other regulatory bodies involved in medical quality management;
  • To provide a core body of knowledge to health care professionals in the field of medical quality management;
  • To elevate the standards of medical schools & postgraduate education in medical quality management;
  • To conduct & sponsor on-going research & evaluation in the various fields of medical quality.
     

Membership consists of physician healthcare professionals responsible for providing leadership in medical quality & patient safety outcomes, who want or need resources & tools, experience & expertise to improve the quality & safety of patient care.

Residents & Medical Students are selected based on their ongoing leadership & research in Medical Quality:

  • National Quality Scholars (11 named annually)

Scholars receive:

  • Professional mentorship from physician leaders
  • Reimbursement for travel and complimentary registration to MEDICAL QUALITY 2015 Conference
  • Early eligibility to sit for Board Exam to receive Certification in Medical Quality (CMQ)
  • Access to peer-reviewed, PubMed-indexed publishing opportunities for trainees in AJMQ’s Quality Training to Improve Performance (QTIP) Column

ABMQ Certification in
Medical Quality (CMQ)

  • The role of ABMQ is to establish examination, certification & evaluation procedures for professionals & programs that present evidence of expertise, experience, & training in the field of Medical Quality.
  • The ABMQ provides ACMQ members and National Quality Scholars the opportunity to sit for the Certification in Medical Quality (CMQ) board examination to test basic knowledge in medical quality management.
  • The content of the exam is based on the textbook Medical Quality Management: Theory and Practice among other resources.
  • The designation, Certified in Medical Quality (CMQ) is awarded to candidates who successfully pass the medical board certification exam and holds a medical license.

Quality Improvement &
Patient Safety Committee

  • The ACMQ encourages residents & students to create local Quality Improvement & Patient Safety Committees
  • ACMQ members provide expertise, guidance & advising when creating a QI+PS Committee.
  • Forming a local QI+PS Committee is a great way to tackle pressing healthcare delivery & medical education challenges in the clinical training environment & provide an excellent opportunity to practice & exercise medical quality skillsets.
National Workshop on Quality
for Medical Education

  • The workshop, hosted by ACMQ Resident & Student Section leaders, provide students, residents & fellows a tailored experience to learn how to successfully integrate patient safety and quality improvement into their careers & training.
  • During the workshop, trainees meet with national experts who discuss important technical &leadership skills. Students also hear from residents who have led successful safety & quality improvement projects.
  • Past speakers have included Peter Pronovost (Director of the Armstrong Institute at Johns Hopkins), the Vice President of Quality and Safety at MedStar Health (David Mayer), the Chief Quality Officer of Geisinger Health (John Bulger) and the President of the National Patient Safety Foundation (Tejal Gandhi).
